Will being in the study cost me anything? If so, will I be reimbursed for expenses such as travel, parking, or lodging? The sponsor has in the budget repayment for approved travel, parking and lodging. The amount this is differs with trials as it depends on the duration/longevity and number of visits.
Will my insurance pay for costs not covered by the research trial, or will I need to pay out of pocket? If I don’t have insurance, am I still eligible to participate? There is nothing to pay and no need for insurance. If there is another finding that the Investigator finds either in screening, during or post the trial they may recommend extra testing in an appointment with them or another specialist (i.e., an Ophthalmologist). If this were the case, you may need to pay out of pocket or with your Medicare. This will be explained and disclosed by the PI at the time of finding any additional issues.
Will I need a study partner? If so, how long will he or she need to participate? Will my study partner be compensated for his or her time? You do not need a study partner. Most trials do not allow partners to be on the same trial due to ethical reasons. If you require a chaperone, this may be approved prior to the commencement of the study.
