After The Trial Ends

After a Trial Ends – Frequently Asked Questions

1. What happens when a clinical trial ends?

Once a clinical trial concludes, all study-related procedures and treatments stop. Your participation in the trial officially ends, and we conduct a final visit to assess your health and collect any last data points.

2. Will I continue to receive the treatment after the trial?

This depends on the type of treatment and the trial protocol. In most cases, the investigational treatment is not available after the trial ends unless it becomes commercially available or through an extension study. We’ll let you know your options during the exit process.

3. Will I be informed about the results of the trial?

Yes. Once the data is analysed and approved for release, a summary of the trial results will be shared with participants. This can take several months to a few years, depending on the study. Some of our research has been published in peer-reviewed journals or presented at international conferences (see: recent publications and presentations.

4. How will my medical care continue after the trial?

We will ensure a smooth transition back to your regular eye care provider. A summary of your participation and any findings relevant to your health will be shared with them, with your consent. Or if you would like to continue to see Dr Mark Hinds or one of the team, you will be added to our database for Mark Hinds Optometrists and we are happy to continue your care.

5. What happens to the data collected during the trial?

All data is securely stored and used for scientific research and regulatory reporting. Your personal information is de-identified and kept confidential in accordance with Australian privacy laws and Good Clinical Practice guidelines.

6. Can I join another clinical trial after this one?

Yes, but this depends on the type of trial and the treatments involved. Some studies require a “washout” period before you can join another trial. Our team can advise you on future eligibility. Please be advised that you cannot be on more than 1 clinical trial at the same time.

7. Will I be compensated after the trial ends?

You will be reimbursed for any trial-related visits or expenses as outlined in the Participant Information and Consent Form (PICF). Ongoing compensation does not apply once the trial concludes.

8. Who do I contact if I have questions or health concerns after the trial?
